Hi, my name is Laurie and I’m an English guy who’s been living with Type 1 diabetes for over 5 years. As a fit and healthy 25 year old I was caught off-guard after a routine medical checkup showed mild hyperglycaemia. It took about 12 months of back and forth tests to get diagnosed as a late onset Type 1 diabetic. Since then I’ve had to learn a lot and make a few crucial lifestyle changes.
At the time I barely needed any insulin but 5 years later it’s a very different story. Since then I’ve spent countless hours learning, researching and testing different strategies for managing diabetes.
I believe that diabetics deserve the information, support and community they need to build a full, healthy life alongside managing diabetes.
I want to provide a space for diabetics to learn real world strategies for managing diabetes. We don’t give stuffy, clinical, idealised advice about how diabetes should hypothetically be managed. Instead we give down to earth, actionable information about diabetes that is backed by science and personal experience.
Diabetes can be a pretty heavy topic but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We like to keep things light hearted and positive. Diabetes is a marathon not a sprint so keeping the right mindset is crucial.
As a type 1 diabetic I am passionate about helping others who may be confused, overwhelmed or scared by the condition. I want to give diabetics a place where they can feel empowered to take control of their diabetes.
All the articles and information on my site has been carefully selected, planned and edited by myself so I know its reliable and accurate. I hire professional writers and talented wordsmiths to help me put together top notch articles. I even hire professional editors to help me ensure the quality and readability of the articles is up to scratch and not a word gets published without me giving the OK.
Whenever possible I aim to get real world accounts and first hand experiences of any topics we cover. I’m ansi very serious about making sure our information is backed by real facts and robust scientific research. You won’t find fad diets or miracle cures recommended here, we are all about doing what really works.
We believe the most important thing is managing your diabetes in whatever way is most effective for you and your circumstances. We are not dogmatic about our recommendations but we do not tolerate pseudoscience on unsupported claims. We want to give diabetics a place where they can feel understood and don’t need to pretend to be the model diabetic patient. We aim to provide a safe community for diabetics to ask questions, laugh, rant and celebrate their wins with people who understand their daily struggles.
